Culture and Ecology Pop-Up
February 3, 20152015 Participant, Culture and Ecology Pop-Up, University of Chicago
Eating at the Same Table: Culture and Ecology, an informal dinner discussion organized by the Arts, Science & Culture Initiative at the University of Chicago as part of our Pop-Up-Lab series. The Initiative’s task is to provide a space for collaboration and research across the arts, sciences, and social sciences. Our Pop-UpLabs are a forum to bring together scholars and practitioners from various disciplines to discuss a particular topic and to see what common questions arise (more information can be found here).
Drawn from a shared interested in agriculture and horticulture, the Pop-Up-Lab, Eating at the Same Table: Culture and Ecology is inspired by Laura Letinsky (Professor, Department of Visual Arts, UChicago) and Amber Ginsburg (Lecturer, Department of Visual Arts, UChicago). Letinsky and Ginsburg are in the beginning stages of developing a series of trans-disciplinary courses/events that explore models of growth/growing and cultural production, and are interested in incorporating the lenses of biology, ecology, anthropology, landscape, film, art history, and visual arts into the discussion.
We intend this evening to provide an opportunity for scholars and practicioners from disparate fields to meet around a topic of universal relevance, and to possibly plant a seed for further collaborations.
